The Supreme Judicial Council has participated in the regional conference for the Arab States and North Africa to update the action plan of the United Nations on the safety of journalists and combating impunity. The conference has been hosted by the UNESCO office in Iraq.
Judge Hatem Jabar Udah, the representative of the Supreme Judicial Council has presented a detailed presentation on the procedures of the Supreme Judicial Council in the context of the work of the national committee to protect journalists that was developed by UNESCO in Iraq in 2016.
Judge Hatem Jabar Udah mentioned the unit is competent in crimes committed against journalists and the notify digital platform for female journalists and hotlines to protect journalists. He also talked about the decision of the Supreme Judicial Council to appoint 22 judges at the appeal courts to consider cases and prevent the arrest of journalists because of fees for broadcast and work permits of media institutions.
